SAG Awards Trend Alert

We noticed a surprising trend at last night's Screen Actors Guild Awards: soft, loose, flowing waves. We love this easy, pretty look which is such a contrast from past more fashion forward styles. To achieve this look wrap sections of hair around a large barrel curling iron. Once each section is curled use a bobby pin to set curl in place while hair cools. Once all hair is curled remove bobby pins and finish with a bit of hairspray. Super simple, and you'll be all set to look like a red carpet star!

Makeup Maven: Rachel McAdams

Actress Rachel McAdams recently sported a bold look. She lined her eyes with bright yellow liner. According to critics, the shade is a bit too much for winter. We always love when our favorite celebs step out of the box, but we kinda agree with the sentiment. Maybe not so much for the colder months, but this is definitely a trend we're excited to try come spring!

Fun New Hairstyles

Going for a new look? Try some of these fun, easy, hairstyles.

1) Tight Braid: To achieve this look start by applying gel to the roots of the hair. Brush hair back into a ponytail, then just braid the ponytail and secure at the end.

2) Mini Pompadour: Not only is this one fun, but it's great if you're growing out your bangs. Start by grabbing the section of hair on the top of your head between the temples. Tease this section of hair at the roots. Smooth out with your fingers and pin down hair at the center of the crown of your head.

3) High Bun: This one is very chic. Blow dry hair while tousling it with your hands. Next, pull hair into a high ponytail at the top of your head. Tease the ponytail, twist it and wrap in in a bun, pinning it in place. Be sure to finish off with a bit of hairspray.

Curly Hair Styling Tips

How do you keep your curly locks looking great? We've got some great tips for you!

1) Deep condition hair at least once a week and use a gently shampoo. Leave in conditioner and some sort of anti-frizz serum work great to keep curls under control too.

2) If deep conditioning isn't enough, try a hair mask. Apply in the shower and leave on hair for at least 20 minutes.

3) If you need to loosen your curls use a wide tooth comb and rake some mousse through your hair. Then, wrap hair loosely around a large barrel curling iron.

4) Slept-on curls looking a little disheveled? Spray some leave in conditioner on them to bring them back to life.

5) Make sure your hair is cut in a way that supports your curl pattern. This helps in cutting down frizz.

How They Wear Their Hair Over There

The women of Namibia's Himba tribe slather their hair with a mixture of butter and ocher (a type of iron ore) and divide hair into several plats. Dry hair is a turn off to Himba men, so women of the tribe apply the concoction liberally.

In Kenya, the women of the Masai tribe wear their hair short or completely shaved and adorn their heads with beads. The practice of wearing their hair short allows women to stand out from the males of the tribe who actually wear their hair long.

The Miao women of China wear there hair in a style that's been nicknamed "Long Horns". To get the look they place U-shaped pieces of wood on top of their heads and wrap their hair around them, securing the hair with a white cord.

The Brazilian Blowout: Does it Work?

So what exactly is the Brazilian Blowout? A lot of us have heard of it, but don't know exactly how it works. The treatment promises to leave frizzy/curly hair straight, shiny and more manageable for up to 12 weeks. Stars like Nicole Richie and Ashley Tisdale swear by it.

So how does it work? The Brazilian Blowout gives hair a protective layer of protein around the hair shaft which eliminates frizz. After hair is washed, a solution is applied and hair is dried. Hair is then flat ironed to seal in solution, rinsed out, conditioned and blow dried.

The treatment is pretty pricey (it starts at about $350) but the results last for 3 months. To learn more go to www.brazilianblowout.com.
