How To: Get Long Lashes

We all want long lashes, but how do we get them? These days there are tons of ways to make your lashes long and luscious.
1) The easiest way to lengthen your lashes is to use mascara. Some mascaras are made to specifically thicken lashes while others focus on lengthening.
2) Try false eyelashes. There are lots of options here from very natural to long, exaggerated lashes. False lashes also come in individual lashes and whole lashes depending on what you prefer. Best yet, they're not too difficult to apply yourself. Just apply a thin line of beauty glue to the edge of the lash. Flex lash in a horseshoe shape to loosen and press down on top of the lash directly on the edge of your eyelid where your lash line starts. Hold for at least 30 seconds and you're all set!
3) If you want a more permanent solution you have two options. You can go with eyelash extensions. These are the same concept as hair extensions. Many salons and spas offer this service and will apply extensions which will last you for at least a month. If this option still isn't permanent enough for you, visit your doctor and ask about medical treatments that will actually grow your lashes!
So there you have it. Whether you want long lashes for a night on the town or more permanently, there's a solution for everyone!

2) Get a fun exercises DVD. These days you can find DVDs on anything from yoga, to salsa, to ballet. So pick something that you like and pop it in the DVD player!

3) Skip the elevator and take the stairs anywhere you go. This is an easy way to incorporate a workout into your everyday activity.

Condition Your Hair....With Olive Oil!

Instead of spending money on store bought conditioner, try olive oil. It's natural and leaves your hair smooth and shiny. Want to know how it works? We've got your steps to getting perfectly conditioned hair here!

1) Warm 2 tsp of olive oil.

2)Massage olive oil into your hair, beginning with your scalp and working your way down to your ends.

3) Wrap hair in warm towel for about 30 minutes to allow the oil to deeply penetrate the hair. You can also apply a shower cap to your hair and sit under a dryer for 30 minutes.

4) Wash hair with a mild shampoo and make sure to rinse with cold water. This seals the hair shaft, locking in shine.

Beauty 101: Hydration Treatments for the Cold Winter

Hydration is a key component of any health and beauty regimen, but when you’re busy at this time of year, it’s all too easy to forget about drinking the recommended eight glasses of water of day.

Dry, scaly and/or itchy skin seems to be synonymous with winter. Low humidity can be a major culprit, but it is possible that low levels of vitamins A, C and B complex are to blame.
Take lot's of fluids, water, tea, and orange juice, stick it to your routine.

One of the most comforting things to do when you have a chill is to take a hot bath or shower. While warm water is comforting and good for the skin, water that is too hot will strip your skin of its moisture and leave your skin feeling dry. Also, be careful of how much you exfoliate, sometimes we mistake dry skin for dead skin and when your skin is already dry you don’t want to strip it raw. Exfoliating once a week should suffice. Excessive heat in your house or car will also dry your skin out, so lower that heat a few notches and put on an extra sweater.

Holiday Diet Tips

During the holidays we all worry about packing on the pounds. With so many holiday parties, family events and other gatherings that are all full of delicious, fattening foods, how do you maintain your weight? Dr. Wayne Andersen, the creator of Take Shape for Life, shares with us his tips on how to avoid overeating during the holidays.

1) Don't go hungry. Try eating a Medifast meal prior to arriving at the party. This will help curb your appetite.

2) If you are invited to a party, which happens to be a potluck, this is a great opportunity to bring a healthy meal.

3)When you arrive at the party-and you want to partake or try food, use the smallest plate with healthy choices.

4) Be mindful of your healthy choices, fresh vegetables, lean proteins, and salads.

5) Limit or skip foods that are high in calories and low in nutritional value.

6) Take time for yourself! This is a very busy time of the year. Take time to exercise and keep your body moving. Just taking a walk can give you that alone time you need to regroup and get your body moving.

7) Ask your friends and family in advance to forgo food gifts.
