Hair Trends: The Comeback of the Perm?

How many of us used to get perms back in the day? Don't worry, we won't judge you! Especially since, according to the New York Times, perms are making a come back, except this time they're called body waves and they're not as severe as the perms of the 80's. Think soft, pretty waves a la Kate Hudson, pictured above. Treatments can be pricey (averaging about $150 to $400 a session) but we have to admit, it's a great option for ladies with straight hair that want a little more volume and don't have time to curl their hair every day. So, what do you think? Would you get a perm, err, body wave?

How To: Wear Bangs

Thinking about getting bangs but worried about the upkeep? Bangs aren't quite as scary as they seem if you know how to style them.

1) When blow drying hair, make sure to blow dry bangs to the front. This will help them to fall correctly.
2) If you have frizzier hair, be sure to flat iron bangs once they're dry.
3) Most bangs look best with a slight curl. This can be achieved with a large barrel curling iron, or a flat iron.
4) Side swept bangs are very chic. If your bangs just aren't acting right, simply sweep them to the side!
5) If you're growing your bangs out and just don't want them on your face, try pinning them back in a bouffant. Very on trend!

How do I say this? I think it was the ugliest haircut I've ever seen." Who knew? What do you all think? Did you like the "Rachel"?

Curly Hair Styling Tips

How do you keep your curly locks looking great? We've got some great tips for you!

1) Deep condition hair at least once a week and use a gently shampoo. Leave in conditioner and some sort of anti-frizz serum work great to keep curls under control too.

2) If deep conditioning isn't enough, try a hair mask. Apply in the shower and leave on hair for at least 20 minutes.

3) If you need to loosen your curls use a wide tooth comb and rake some mousse through your hair. Then, wrap hair loosely around a large barrel curling iron.

4) Slept-on curls looking a little disheveled? Spray some leave in conditioner on them to bring them back to life.

5) Make sure your hair is cut in a way that supports your curl pattern. This helps in cutting down frizz.

Best Tressed for 2011

Wondering what styles will be big in 2011? Stylist Roy Teeluck shares his picks for the three hottest looks of the new year.

PIXIE STICKS

Even though we spent the past few months whipping our hair back and forth, Emma Watson, Carey Mulligan, and The Biebs chopped it all off making 2010 the unofficial year of the pixie. Roy says, "A pixie is a great way to show off your face and is very low maintenance style-wise."
SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING BOB

A bob is a fantastic way to take your hair from drab to fab. By creating a blunt layer (or indie layers in ScarJo's case), you showcase those cheekbones and instantly create a timeless look. Roy (who personally styles Hillary Clinton and Olivia Palermo) says that leaving the sides a little longer makes for a modern version that softens the hard edge of a classic bob.

THE TAMING OF THE DO

For long haired glamour girls, 2010 was all about change. Taylor Swift broke up with her signature curls and started rocking blunt bangs and a pin-straight look. Model Lily Aldridge got on the Balayage bandwagon and warmed up her brown hair with some golden highlights. Emma Stone ditched her red hair and officially became a California blonde.

Best Haircuts for Your Face Shape

Everyone of us has had a bad haircut a time or two. How do you avoid this mishap? Most people don't think to choose their cut based on their face shape. If this has never occurred to you, we've got your guide to finding the best hairstyle for your face.

Round Face: The trick to round facial shapes is to make your face appear longer and leaner. To do this, you'll want to have less volume around the face. Try: cuts just below the chin. Layering is also good. If you want to try bangs, keep them longer and side swept.

Oval Face: If you have strong bone structure and an oval shaped face, a blunt bob works great. If you like your eyes, try a bang to bring the focus to them.

Long Face: Longer bangs are great for a longer face. Try them with a chin length bob, to give the illusion of width. Curls are also great for adding width to the face.

Square Face: Curls and choppier ends are great to make your face shape a bit softer. Also, try sleek layered styles.

Heart Face: If you have a heart shaped face, you'll want to draw attention to your cheek bones and eyes. Side swept bangs work well as do soft layers.

How To: Wear Bangs

Thinking about a new look for the winter? Bangs are an easy way to spice up your look without making a huge commitment. And, we've got some great tips on how to style this look so that you're perfectly on trend!

  • Flat iron your bangs: In order to wear this look, it's essential that your bangs are evenly and bluntly cut or it will look strange. Flat iron bangs, apply a dry shampoo to dull the shine infused in your hair from the flat iron and then apply a small amount of matte paste to hair to keep it in place.

  • Get a fringed natural look: Run a pomade through the ends of towel dried hair. Blow-dry hair with a round barrel brush giving bangs a slight curl under.

  • Modern, edgy bang: Wash hair. Apply large roller to bangs and sit under a dryer. When hair is almost dry, remove roller and blow dry hair at a low heat setting.
